In 1997 space shuttle Columbia as a mission Kalpana chawala in 2003 was one of the seven crew members who died in space shuttle Columbia disaster  when she come on the earth atmosphere. chawla was posthumously awarded the congressional space Medal of Honor and serveral streets, Universities and institution have been named in her it.
